Each week contains:

Four to six mini-lessons, each of which is richly illustrated and about 5 pages long, including exercises, each of which takes 20-30 minutes.

Some exercises require a partner, students are strongly encouraged to find a “study buddy” and support in that endeavor will be provided.

Unlimited Q&A, conversation, and fellowship with me and other students via Facebook, Reddit, and Discord. (historically, the Facebook groups are more active)
There are two ways to move through this class, a “beginner” path and an “experienced reader” path. For the most part, the paths will be similar, but they will use different decks for the exercises. The beginner path is built around the classic 1910 “Smith-Rider-Waite” deck, which is also called the “RWS”. The more advanced path relies on The Fool’s Dog sampler deck, which is built from cards curated from 70+ different decks. For the most part, students on the advanced track are expected to already know the RWS, but all students get access to both tracks, and are welcome to mix and match to create the level that works best for them.
In week one, we’ll start off with Intuitionist reading, asking a question, and then using the pictures on the cards to inspire our inner teacher’s answer. In addition, you’ll learn three simple reading “templates” for three different kinds of circumstances: predicting a course of events, diagnosing an existing situation, and weighing options to make a decision.
In week two, we’ll start learning Formalist readings of suits and elements, focusing on the court cards. We’ll use that knowledge to start reading about people, motivations, and relationships. We’ll also introduce the concept of “tableau” reading – how the meaning of a card is influenced by the context of the surrounding cards.
Weeks four and five we’ll learn the Trumps or Major Arcana. We’ll also discuss reading for strangers, framing better questions, and non-divinatory uses of tarot, including games and enchantment/manifesting.
Finally, in our sixth week, we’ll discuss combining tarot with other methods, choosing (and creating!) tarot decks, and tarot as a profession.
